Online Class: Women Writers of the Harlem Renaissance

Online through Politics and Prose bookstore

Event Location: Online through Politics and Prose bookstore

Event Dates: Each Saturday from January 13 - February 10, 2024

Event summary (Abstract): Many readers are familiar with some of the primary men contributors like Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, and W.E.B. DuBois to the 20th century burst of Black creativity known as the Harlem Renaissance or the New Negro movement. However, less familiar are people with the women who mid-wifed and influenced this period with significant artistic contributions of their own. Join us for four weeks to read, discuss, and learn more about Zora Neale Hurston, Jessie Fauset, Nella Larsen, and Dorothy West. We will explore not only these women’s works of fiction but also delve into how each one of these Black women left their indelible marks on the Harlem Renaissance.
